Extinction: Rift in the Aether Card Types

  • Dinos are a central card type in Extinction: Rift in the Aether. They are mighty, elemental dinosaurs that players use to battle each other. Dinos are integral to gameplay, embodying the game's core themes of elemental power and prehistoric combat.

    Overview

Dinos play a pivotal role in the strategy of the game. Players must carefully choose their dinos based on their abilities and elemental strengths, manage their stamina and hitpoints, and effectively utilize their unique abilities to gain an advantage over their opponents.

By combining various elements and leveraging the distinctive traits of each dino, players can craft powerful decks and employ strategic gameplay to dominate the battlefield and achieve victory in the prehistoric world of Extinction: Rift in the Aether.

    Characteristics

Each dino card features the following attributes:

    • Name: Unique identifier of the Dino.
    • Element: One of four elements: Air, Earth, Fire, or Water.
    • Power (P): Represented by a sword icon, this indicates the damage the dino deals when it attacks.
    • Stamina (S): Represented by a shield icon, this shows the dino's resistance to damage.
    • Hitpoints (HP): Represented by a heart icon, this signifies the dino's life total. When reduced to zero, the dino dies.
    • Ability: Special effects or traits that provide unique advantages during the game.

    Abilities

Dino abilities are diverse and can be categorized into static, triggered, and activated abilities:

    • Static Abilities: Always active as long as the dino is on the battlefield. For example, "Soar" prevents a Dino from being intercepted except by Air dinos.
    • Triggered Abilities: Activate when specific conditions are met, such as "When this dino attacks, draw a card."
    • Activated Abilities: Require a cost to activate, indicated by a colon (e.g., "Pay 2 Water energy: This dino gains +1 Power until end of turn").

    Combat and Damage

Dinos are the only card type that can engage in combat and suffer damage:

    • Attacking: A ready dino can attack an opponent's dino, dealing damage equal to its Power. The attacking dino becomes exhausted.
    • Intercepting: A ready dino can intercept an attack targeting another dino, redirecting the attacker's damage to itself.
    • Damage and Wounds: Damage persists until the end of the turn. If the damage equals or exceeds the dino's Stamina, it suffers a wound and becomes exhausted. A dino dies if the number of wounds on it equals or exceeds its Hitpoints.
